iPhone, iPad and Android 1.0, build 96

Everyone needs this update. Older builds ask you to update before they open.

New

See everyone on a group call. A group call lists everyone in the group and where they are: ringing, connecting, connected, left or no answer. Tap Ring beside someone who didn’t answer or who left to ring them again. Only their phone rings.

Stay on when the others leave. If everyone you were talking to leaves a group call, you stay on for up to five minutes, so they can come back or you can ring them again.

Join from the chat. While a group call is going on, a green bar under the chat’s name says how many people are on it, with Join.

Group video calls show each person’s name on their picture, and below it who else is still being rung.

Leave a voice message instead. When someone doesn’t answer your call (it rings for a minute), is busy or declines, the call screen offers Voice message, which opens the chat already recording, or Call again.

Check a call’s key. Once a call connects, four emoji show at the top of the screen, and beside each person on a group call. If the other person sees the same four, nobody is in between. Tap them to read more.

The call screen moves with the call. Rings spread from the photo while it rings, and the background glows blue while calling, green while you talk, amber while it waits and red when it ends. With Reduce Motion on it stays still.

New

Make someone a group admin. Whoever made a Kristik group can now make others admins, or take it back: tap someone in the group’s details. Every member has one menu there with what you can do: make or remove as admin, remove from the group, report, block.

Change a group’s photo where it is. Tap the photo at the top of the group’s details to take one, choose one or remove it.

One button for voice and video messages. In a Kristik chat the microphone offers both; pick one and it starts recording.

Notifications that say what needs you. A chat request or group invitation says who asked. You are told when an account needs you to sign in again, when your chats have finished importing, and when a WhatsApp or Signal contact’s security code changes. Tapping one opens the page it is about, and the sign-in notice asks Approve or Not me at once.

An import on the lock screen. While an account imports its chats, its progress shows on the lock screen (a Live Activity on iPhone, an ongoing notification on Android): the network and the numbers, never a chat or a name. WhatsApp and Signal import only while Kristik is open, and say so.

Reply to Kristik about your bug reports. Open one of your reports in Settings → Help → Your bug reports to see its screenshot, Kristik’s answer and the replies, write back, or open it again. Your phone tells you when Kristik answers.

Call from CarPlay. A Kristik chat or group’s menu in the car has Call.

Chat photos in CarPlay. Each chat in the car shows its photo, with its network’s mark on the corner.

Fixed

Holding a message with the keyboard up put the menu over the wrong place. It now waits for the keyboard to go.

A GIF or sticker sent next to photos was drawn into their gallery. It is its own message now.

Your own photo shows on your row in a group’s member list, not your initials.

Signal: a message could be shown as yours when it was not. Only your own devices can now add a message as yours.

New

Call a group. In a group chat with other Kristik people, tap the phone or camera button to call everyone. Up to four people can be on a call, and anyone in the group can join from the call’s line in the chat while it is on. Everyone on the call can see your phone’s internet address; the call screen says so before you join.

You hear your call being made. A soft pip while the call is placed and while it connects, and the ringing tone while the other phone rings. A group call rings until someone joins.

Fixed

A call to a locked iPhone rings. It arrived as a silent notification. Now it rings with your ringtone; tap it to open the call. The full call screen on a locked iPhone needs a permission from Apple that Kristik does not have yet.

Take a photo or video from the chat. The + button now opens Kristik’s own sheet: take a photo, record a video, pick from your recent photos and videos with one tap, or open all your photos or files. Your recent photos are read on your phone; only the one you send leaves it.

Video messages. In a chat with other Kristik people, record a short video of yourself, up to a minute. It shows as an octagon in the chat and plays where it is with a tap. It is encrypted like every message.

You hear the call. A call you make now rings while the other phone rings, beeps when it connects, and sounds when the line is busy or the call ends.

Fixed

Tapping a notification opens its chat. Before, it opened whichever chat you had open last.

See who reacted to a message. Press and hold a reaction under a message to see everyone who reacted, grouped by emoji. It works in every chat, including chats from other networks.

Fixed

A chat could open blank. Opening a chat with unread messages could leave the whole conversation hidden and never show it. It now always shows.

Profile photos in group chats. People in a group could show as initials instead of their photo when their photo was still loading as new messages arrived. Their photo now appears once it has loaded.

A Kristik group can have a photo. Open the group’s details and tap Photo. Everyone in the group sees it, and Kristik’s server stores it unencrypted, as it does a profile photo. The group’s name and messages stay encrypted. In a group made before this build, only the person who made it can change the photo.

Fixed

A friend’s Telegram messages no longer show as yours. Kristik could mistake someone you have a Telegram chat with for you, and then showed their messages in every shared group as if you had sent them.

Privacy and safety

Opening a status from search no longer tells its poster you watched it. Searching a word from a WhatsApp status and opening the result marked the status as seen. Stories are now never marked seen and never searched.

A Signal safety number shows the new key while a change waits for you. When a contact’s key changed, the number to compare was still the old one’s, so it could match their app when it shouldn’t. It now shows the number of the key you would be trusting.

A link preview can’t reach devices on your own network. Every step a link redirects through is now checked before it is followed, and the preview’s picture is never saved to the phone.

A phone waiting for approval stays waiting when it is opened offline. It no longer shows the inbox until another phone has approved it.

Removing a phone stops its notifications at once, rather than when the removal finishes in the background. This is a server change.

Signing out or erasing forgets the language you picked for summaries, and the link previews and attachments that were open.

Settings now says screen security is off until you turn it on, and how another phone approves a new one.

Fixed

A sign-in that fails no longer stops the next one working. After a refused sign-in, every later try could fail until the app was erased.

Your own messages stay yours and in order. A message you sent could stick to the bottom of the chat, and on a second connected network your older messages could show as someone else’s.

Signal history isn’t lost when a message arrives before you press Transfer. That chat’s history is now kept.

No WhatsApp or Signal message is lost if the connection drops mid-drain, and on Android each one shows its notification however it was fetched.

Android notifications stay until you have read the chat. Opening Kristik removed them before the inbox had loaded.

Android calls ring as they do on iPhone. An unanswered call leaves a missed-call notice, a second call during a call doesn’t ring full screen, and a call rings while Kristik’s own lock is on.

A missed call is shown as a call. It no longer adds to the app icon’s number or appears among messages in CarPlay.

The assistant says where it did each step. A voice message this phone transcribed says “Transcribed on this phone”, and read-aloud answers say so. Nothing is downloaded for a voice message the phone can’t transcribe.

Reading aloud picks its voice more carefully. On iPhone the phone’s own voice is used only when it is sure of the message’s language, as on Android, and CarPlay no longer falls back to another language’s voice.

iPhone closes Kristik in the background less often. Kristik now closes every file it keeps open before iPhone suspends it.

Kristik no longer opens on the sign-in screen when you are signed in. On iPhone, if the app had been started while the phone was locked (by a notification, a call, CarPlay or a background refresh), it couldn’t read who was signed in and showed the sign-in screen until it was closed and opened again. The same thing made some notifications on a locked phone say only “New message”. Both now work while the phone is locked. Android was not affected.

Fixed

Shaking to report a bug works with a photo, a menu or a sheet open. On iPhone the report didn’t appear over them, and shaking did nothing after that until the app was restarted. It now opens on top of whatever is showing. Android was not affected.

A Telegram story goes once you can no longer see it. Removing someone from your Telegram contacts left their story in Kristik until it was a day old, because Telegram doesn’t say when a story stops being shown to you. Kristik now checks your Telegram stories every half hour and takes down any that are gone. This is a server change.

Export a chat. A chat’s details page, under Block and Report, has Export chat: every message this phone has from that chat, decrypted, as JSON, handed to the share sheet so you can save or send it. Photos and other files are named, not included. The export is not encrypted, so anyone you send it to can read it.

Listen to a chat’s voice messages in CarPlay. A chat’s menu has Voice messages: its latest ten, newest first, each with who sent it, how long it is and when. Tap one to hear it through the car, and tap again to stop. WhatsApp’s, Telegram’s and Kristik’s all play.

CarPlay is the iPhone’s; the Android app has nothing new in this build.

Choose the language summaries are written in. Settings → Assistant → Summaries in: each chat’s own language, as before, or one of twelve you pick. It holds in the app, in CarPlay and in Siri’s catch-up. A summary in a language you pick is written by OpenAI.

A voice message in CarPlay has its own screen. It shows how long you have been recording, with Send and Cancel. Going back throws the recording away.

CarPlay’s icons are Kristik’s blue instead of black on the car’s dark screen.

A chat in CarPlay opens a menu. Siri reads what is new, or takes a reply. You can send a voice message recorded through the car, or hear a summary of the chat’s new messages, its recent ones, today or the last seven days. Each chat shows its network’s mark beside its name.

Kristik’s notifications show in CarPlay. A new message shows who it is from, and tapping it has Siri read it. The car never shows a message’s words, so while Kristik’s notifications show message text, none go to the car. To keep them off the car, turn off Show in CarPlay in the iPhone’s Settings → Notifications → Kristik.

Changed

Summaries in the car use the app’s voice. That is OpenAI’s when “Read aloud with OpenAI” is on in Kristik’s settings, or when the iPhone has no voice for the summary’s language, and the car says so while it plays.

Catch up on today has a new icon that shows on the car’s dark screen.

CarPlay is the iPhone’s; the Android app has nothing new in this build.

Fixed

Connecting Messenger works again. Facebook changed its sign-in, and Kristik’s Messenger connection stopped on it and started over, which also lost a sign-in on facebook.com that was under way. That page then said “The connector rejected that step (M_NOT_FOUND)”. The connection now stays up. If the password form cannot follow Facebook, you are offered facebook.com instead, and a sign-in there is kept even if the connection restarts.

Signing in on a network’s own page uses the whole screen. The page sits under the note about what signing in means and fills the rest, so there is no scrolling to reach it. Below it, Kristik says it carries on by itself once you are in, where a button you could not press used to be.

Dragging along a voice message moves through it. On iOS 26, dragging sideways anywhere in a chat went back to the chat list, so dragging along a voice message’s bars left the chat instead of moving through the message. In a chat, swipe back from the left edge of the screen, as before iOS 26.

Voice message controls under the chat’s name. Once a voice message plays, a bar under the chat’s header lets you go back or forward 10 seconds, pause, and play at 1.5× or 2× — the speed stays for every voice message until you change it. It stays in place while you scroll the chat; close it with ✕.

Jump anywhere in a voice message. Tap the bars of a voice message, or drag along them, to move to that point.

Taller bars. A voice message’s bars are nearly twice as tall, so its loud and quiet parts are easier to see.

Kristik’s icon on Android follows what’s unread. Android draws the count on an app’s icon from its notifications (a number on Samsung, a dot on Pixel). Kristik now removes a chat’s notifications once you’ve read it, and all of them when nothing is unread, so the icon matches the Chats tab instead of growing until you swipe them away.

The unread count is on Kristik’s icon. The red number on your home screen is the same as on the Chats tab: unread messages, leaving out archived chats and stories. While Kristik is closed it goes up with each message you’re notified of, and it’s put right the next time you open the app, for instance after you read a chat on another device.

Summaries read like a message. A catch-up, a whole-chat summary and a roundup now tell you what happened in a few plain sentences, the way a friend who read the chat would, instead of headings and lists of tasks. Details worth keeping, like an order number or an address, follow on their own lines; tap one to copy it.

Summaries include voice messages and photos. While you have a chat open, your phone transcribes its voice messages from the last two days and notes what its photos show, by itself, so a summary can include them and comes back sooner. Nothing is sent anywhere until you press. It works where your phone has the models for it: an iPhone on iOS 26 with the chat’s language installed, or an Android phone with Google’s on-device models. Turn it off in Settings → Assistant → Prepare summaries ahead.

Every summary can be read aloud. Summaries, answers to your questions, a voice message’s summary and roundups all have Read aloud. Hold a voice message for Summarise aloud.

GIFs and stickers in chats with other Kristik people. Tap the GIF button next to the message box to search GIFs or stickers from KLIPY. Your searches go through Kristik’s server, so KLIPY never sees who is searching. The GIF you pick is sent end-to-end encrypted, like a photo.

Stickers without an emoji no longer show a file name such as “sticker.webp” in the chat list.

Kristik on your car’s screen. Apple has approved Kristik for CarPlay. Plug in or connect to a CarPlay car and Kristik shows “Catch up on today” and your chats. Tap Catch up on today to hear a summary of today read out; tap a chat and Siri reads what’s new and takes your reply. The screen shows a chat’s name and whether it has anything new, never the messages themselves. With the app lock on, the car lists nothing.

Voice messages load after the phone wakes. A voice message, photo or file opened just after the phone woke or changed network could spin and then say it couldn’t load. Kristik now tries again by itself on a fresh connection before giving up.

Voice messages are tidier. The bars sit level with the play button, and the length and the time share one line underneath.

A transcript in your own voice message is readable. Its words, the OpenAI label and the line under it are now white on the blue.

Smaller shortcut buttons. The buttons under messages (Settings → Assistant → shortcuts) take less room: under a voice message they are Transcribe, Read aloud and Summarise, on one line.

Choices show what you picked. On a choice like Settings → Assistant → Read aloud with, the highlight now moves to the option you tap. It used to stay on the first one while the other was chosen.

Bring a WhatsApp or Signal account’s history again. Accounts → the network → tap the account → Relink. It unlinks the account from Kristik and opens the link screen; the new link brings your recent history again. Your chats in WhatsApp or Signal themselves are not touched.

See when someone is online. In a chat with another Kristik owner, their name now has “Online” under it while Kristik is open on their phone, or when they were last seen. Chats from WhatsApp, Signal and the other networks don’t show it.

Hide yours. Settings → Privacy & security → Show when I’m online is on to start with. Turn it off and nobody sees when you’re online or were last seen, and you don’t see anyone else’s either.

A Signal chat keeps the history Signal transferred, and its name. When someone wrote to you while your history was still coming in, that chat showed only the new messages and read “WhatsApp contact”. Now each chat’s history arrives ahead of anything new in it, the most recent chats first, and everyone in your Signal contacts is named once the transfer is done. A chat whose name Kristik does not know reads “Signal contact”. Signal sends its history once per link: to get back what an earlier link lost, disconnect Signal and link it again.

A video you send shows its first frame and its own shape on the other person’s phone before they play it, instead of a grey 16:9 box. Your phone makes the picture when you pick the video and sends it encrypted with it; Kristik’s servers never see either. The picture loads when the message scrolls into view; the video itself still waits for a tap. Both phones need this build: videos sent from an older one stay grey.

Voice messages show their waveform. The bars under a voice message now rise and fall with how loud it is, for voice messages from WhatsApp, Telegram and Kristik. Photos and videos sent together show as one gallery, the way Telegram shows an album: up to ten in a grid, instead of one long column. Each is still its own message: tap one to open it, hold one to reply or react to it. A photo sent with words, or as a reply, still shows on its own so its words stay with it.

A voice message plays again after it has finished. Pressing play a second time did nothing until you left the chat and came back.

Importing a network’s history keeps the phone cooler. The inbox, search and the WhatsApp and Signal import do far less work while an import runs, and history no longer pages back through every new chat.

A new phone waits for your approval. Signing in on a new phone now asks you to approve it from a phone that’s already signed in: that phone gets a notification, even with Kristik closed, and one tap on Approve lets the new one in with your history. Not me signs it out and tells you to reset your password. With no other phone to hand, your recovery key approves it instead. A phone signed in before and never approved asks too.

Settings shows each device’s model and when it was added, like “iPhone 15 Pro · Added 27 Sep 2026, 22:31”.

Unlinking WhatsApp or Signal removes its chats from this phone, including ones an earlier link left behind as “WhatsApp contact”.

Disconnected accounts no longer stay listed. Kristik deletes its record of one once it has been signed out.

Choose who reads aloud. Settings → Assistant → Read aloud with: this phone’s own voice, or OpenAI’s. With OpenAI, every message you play goes to OpenAI.

Kristik tells you when a new version is out. If your version still works, a banner above your chats says so, with Update and Not now. Only a version too old to keep working stops the app.

On iPhone, Update opens TestFlight. When a version is too old, the button takes you straight to TestFlight, where Kristik's update is.

Kristik for iPhone and iPad now comes only from TestFlight. AltStore and the install link on kristik.online/download are gone. A copy installed either way no longer gets updates: install Kristik from TestFlight instead.

Swiping between photos stays where you swiped. The full-screen viewer could keep flicking back and forth between two photos on its own.

The newest message stays in view when the keyboard opens, and when a reply or a chat’s search opens above it. It could be left under the box you type in.

A video shows a picture of itself once you’ve opened it, with how long it runs, instead of a grey box. One you haven’t opened yet says how big it is; nothing downloads until you tap it.

Naming a group no longer leaves a “can’t be shown here yet” line in the group’s chat.

Fixed

WhatsApp shows in Accounts after an update. It could look unlinked there for a while after the app restarted, although it was still linked and your chats kept arriving. If Kristik can’t check, Accounts now says so instead of leaving WhatsApp out.

Messages in a Kristik chat that said they couldn’t be decrypted are tried again each time you open the chat or scroll back, so one whose key reached your phone later now shows.

No extra “can’t decrypt” lines for edits and reactions in a chat whose keys haven’t arrived yet.

Voice messages play after you record one or finish a call, on iPhone and iPad. After sending a voice message or a Kristik call, the others in that chat stayed silent until you left the chat and came back.

Block and report

Block another Kristik person from your chat's details, from a group's member list, or from their chat request: you stop getting their messages and chat requests, what they sent leaves your chats, and they aren't told. Report someone, or one of their messages, to the Kristik team; the report says exactly what it sends, and answers arrive in Settings → Help → Message Kristik support. Settings → Privacy & security → Blocked people lists everyone you've blocked, to unblock them.

Blocking covers Kristik chats. Block someone on WhatsApp, Telegram and the rest in that network's own app.

TestFlight

Kristik can be installed from TestFlight: no registering your iPhone first, and TestFlight offers each update itself. The download page and AltStore keep working as before.

No more crashes

Closing a story, and editing or replying to a message from its menu, no longer close the app. Connecting Messenger with a password no longer fails for everyone at once, and if Facebook's form can't be shown, Kristik offers its web page.

Messages

A message that failed to send for a moment is sent as soon as the connection comes back. The newest messages stay in view when the keyboard opens to reply. Pinch a photo in a chat to open it full screen and zoom.

The chat list

Importing WhatsApp no longer rings thousands of times: while your history imports it rings nothing, and a burst of messages rings at most once a minute. Chats appear once their messages have arrived, with WhatsApp's own unread counts. Old chats everyone has left no longer show as "Empty Room", "WhatsApp moved" goes away once WhatsApp is linked, and switching between All and Unread no longer shifts the filters.

Catch up and bug reports

Today's catch-up works even when one of your chats had nothing worth noting, and the keyboard no longer covers a bug report's text field.

Nothing untrue, nothing lost

A draft stays in its chat until Kristik closes, never saved to the phone. Scrolled up in a chat, Kristik no longer tells the other side you've read the newest messages. Edit, Delete for everyone, reactions and attachments appear only where the network supports them. Your recovery key can't be lost by accident, and shows as twelve numbered groups. The assistant says who wrote each result ("On this phone" or "OpenAI") and what it read.

The chat list and chats

A chat slides over the tabs and nothing flashes at launch. The title, search and filters scroll away; one notice shows at a time; the title says "Connecting…", "Updating…" or "Waiting for network…". Rows show who wrote last in a group, your ticks, "@" mentions and drafts. In a chat: a marker where unread messages start, a typing bubble, messages that rise into place, reactions that pop, "Edited", and "Catch up on 34 new messages" (nothing goes to the assistant until you press Summarise). Photos open from where they were, and calls can shrink to a bar.

Accounts, sign-in and Settings

Connecting any network looks the same, and the WhatsApp code keeps working while you scan it. Sign-in shows what Kristik is for, and takes the invitation link. Settings has one line per subject; deleting your account is its own page, still immediate and final. Easier to read in dark mode, and clearer for screen readers.

A Telegram import no longer stops partway

When Kristik asks for many groups' details at once, Telegram makes it wait. Kristik stopped importing at the first wait, and at the same group every time its server restarted, so the rest of the chats never arrived. It now waits as long as Telegram asks and carries on until every chat is in. If your Telegram chats stopped arriving partway, the rest arrive after this update, with nothing to relink.

A group's member list is complete, even when Telegram made Kristik wait while it was being read.

A real count, or none

An import that stopped before any chat was counted said “0 chats imported”. Kristik now says nothing rather than a number that is wrong.

"Hey Siri, Kristik catch-up"

Siri reads the key points from today's chats: what needs attention first, then each chat by its name. "Catch me up on Kristik" and "What happened today on Kristik" work too. It is the same summary as Summarise on the chat list's Today, covering the same chats, and it works in the car through Siri. Voice messages and photos are not read.

Before the first time

Open Kristik once after updating. If you have never used the assistant, summarise a chat in the app once: Siri can't show you what the assistant sends, so it asks you to do that first.

Only to your ears

A locked iPhone reads the catch-up only through the car, headphones or a headset, never out loud from its own speaker. With Kristik's app lock on, Siri reads nothing.

Remove signs a device out

Settings → Devices said revoking a device stopped its message keys and notifications. It stopped only the notifications, and only until that device next opened Kristik. Revoke is now Remove: Kristik ends that device's sign-in, so it gets no new message keys or notifications. The list says Signing out until Kristik's servers have confirmed it, then Signed out. The device keeps what it already downloaded, and a WhatsApp or Signal link made on it stays linked until you remove it under Linked devices in WhatsApp or Signal.

This phone, and devices revoked before

This phone is marked in the list and has no Remove: to sign it out, use Sign out of this phone, which erases it too. A device you revoked before is still signed in, and the list now says so. Press Remove to sign it out.

What an unapproved device can read

The warning about a device you didn't approve used to say Kristik sent it none of your messages. It now says what such a device can read: what you send, and new messages in your Kristik, WhatsApp and Signal chats. Only messages from Telegram, Messenger and Instagram are kept from it.

Up to 1000 chats, 1000 messages each

A link used to bring 50 chats and 200 messages in each. It now brings up to 1000 of each, and WhatsApp sends as much history as it will give, not just the last three months. Photos and files in WhatsApp's history still come only when at most two weeks old and 5 MB. Relink Telegram and WhatsApp to get the bigger window; a link you already have keeps what it brought.

Your newest chats first

Testers found their latest chats missing after a link. WhatsApp's history now fills your most recent chats first, and a new message in a chat waits only for that chat's history, not everyone's. WhatsApp's import starts about a minute after WhatsApp has finished sending. Telegram bridges your most recent chats as soon as it has found them, instead of first listing every chat you have ever had.

Faster, and longer

Imports post to eight chats side by side instead of four. A bigger import still takes longer overall: a large Telegram account can take hours, and WhatsApp's history is posted by your phone while Kristik is open.

Imports that finish, and say so

A WhatsApp import said Connected while thousands of messages were still arriving; it now shows how far it has come until the last one is in. A Signal import could stick at 97% when the app went to the background at the wrong moment; the last part is kept now. Relink Signal to finish an import already stuck. Chats being imported no longer count as unread until the import is done.

WhatsApp: quicker disconnect, no empty chats, names in mentions

Disconnecting leaves its chats several at a time, and the button says “Disconnecting…” while it works. A chat made while the app was in the background could be made twice, leaving an empty “WhatsApp contact” behind; not any more. A mention in a group shows the person's name instead of a long number.

Telegram brings people and groups

A Telegram link no longer brings bots or channels, so more of your 50 places go to the chats you talk in. Relink Telegram to leave out the ones an earlier link brought.

Link previews

A link in a message shows the site's title, text and picture. Your phone asks the website for them, so the website sees your IP address; Kristik's servers never see the link. Turn it off in Settings → Privacy → Show link previews.

Linking WhatsApp on an iPhone no longer crashes

Linking by code sends Kristik to the background while you type the code in WhatsApp, and iOS could close it in the middle of saving. Kristik now puts its data away before iOS suspends it. The link screen also has you open WhatsApp's “Link with phone number” first and copies the code for you, so all that is left is pasting it.

Groups show their name

A group can have a name again, and only the people in it can read it. A group of you and one other person showed a code instead of anything; it shows as a group now. Its members say who made it (Owner) and any Admin.

Edits, unread and Telegram's groups

An edited message changes at once and can be held for its menu straight after. Telegram chats you had already read show as read, and the list stays put through a restart while an import runs. A Telegram link now brings your 50 most recent chats, groups included, instead of your oldest one-to-one chats: relink Telegram to get the groups an earlier link left out.

Imports you can follow, and one way for every account

Every network shows how far its import has come, Telegram with “12 of 50 chats”, and search and roundups say when an import has not brought every chat yet. Every account works the same way: tap it for its name, colour and Disconnect.

Reply to a message

Hold a message in any chat and choose Reply: yours shows the message it answers, here and on the other network.

Shake instead of three fingers

Testers now shake the phone on any screen to report a bug, instead of holding three fingers on it. Settings → Report a bug still works too. Everything after that is as before: you mark the screenshot, and nothing is sent until you press Send report.

On Android the app watches for a shake only while it is open, and only for accounts the Kristik team has switched bug reports on for.

Report a bug, with a screenshot you mark

Hold three fingers still on any screen, or go to Settings → Report a bug. The app takes a screenshot, you draw around what's wrong, pick what it is about and say what happened. The error log goes too unless you switch it off. Nothing is sent until you press Send report.

The Kristik team reads the report, including any messages the screenshot shows, and it is not end-to-end encrypted. No screenshot is taken while the app shows a secret such as your recovery key.

A changed security code waits for you

If a WhatsApp or Signal contact's security code changes, or a WhatsApp contact has a new device, their messages wait and the chat asks before trusting it. Someone who reinstalled looks exactly like this: check with them, then trust.

Turn the assistant off

One switch removes every assistant button, summary and roundup. A photo you have described is now sent without its location or other details.

A stricter app lock

A screen reader can't read what is behind the lock, it opens without your passcode only on a phone that has none, and it locks when the waiting time runs out even if you never come back.

On an iPhone with Apple Intelligence (iOS 26), or an Android phone with Gemini Nano, summaries, today’s catch-up and suggested replies are written on the phone itself, and nothing leaves it. Reading aloud uses your phone’s own voice when it has one for that language. Anything the phone can’t do, such as a language its model doesn’t know or a long conversation, goes to OpenAI as before. Each result says which: “Generated on this phone” or “Generated by AI”.

Each time you pressed Show the code without finishing, the unfinished link kept counting, until linking said “Unlink a relay before linking another” with nothing to unlink. A link not finished within ten minutes is now cleared when you start the next one.

A shared code shows on the computer

Sharing a code’s link from your phone let the share sheet’s link preview open it first, so your computer said “This link was already opened on another device” and never showed the code. The link now opens on a Show the code button, and the browser you press it in is the one that shows the code.

Link Signal with one phone

Signal can’t scan its own screen. The Link Signal screen now has Show it on another screen: a short kristik.online link to open on a computer or tablet. It shows the code; scan it with Signal on your phone, then go back to Kristik to finish. The link opens in one browser only and lasts three minutes. Only ever scan a code you started yourself.

Files open

A PDF or other file in a chat could stay on “could not load”, open only the first time you tapped it, or on Android do nothing at all. Now every tap opens it: a failed download is tried again, and Android opens it in the app that reads it. The photo viewer’s Share button works on Android too.

Shared codes fit the screen

The page a shared sign-in link opens cut the edges off its code on a phone or a narrow window, so it couldn’t be scanned. It now shrinks to fit.

Pressing Show the code on the Signal page said "Couldn’t start linking Signal: the relay could not be reached just now", for everyone. The relay had not been told Signal was allowed yet. It has now, and nothing needs updating on your phone.

Signal is carried by Kristik's relay

Connecting Signal now makes this phone one of your Signal linked devices. Kristik's servers pass your Signal messages on still encrypted, and only this phone opens them, the way WhatsApp already works.

If you connected Signal before today, it keeps working as it did. To move it to the relay, disconnect Signal first, then connect it again.

Send and receive in Signal chats

Messages, replies and reactions go both ways in a chat with one person. Photos, voice notes and files arrive too, downloaded straight from Signal to your phone.

Safety numbers

A Signal chat's details show its safety number. Compare it with the one in Signal on the other person's phone: the same numbers mean your messages reach them and nobody else. If someone's number changes, Kristik holds your message until you choose to trust the new one.

What the relay can do with Signal

Unlike WhatsApp, the link Kristik's relay holds for Signal could also be used to send messages as you and to ask Signal for the keys of people you write to. Kristik uses it only to pass on what your phone sends. The Signal page and each chat's details say this in full.

Photos and files in every chat

The attach button is no longer WhatsApp's alone. Send a photo or a file, with a caption, in Telegram, Messenger, Instagram and Kristik chats too. One sent without signal goes when signal comes back.

Delete or change what you sent, in every chat

Press and hold a message you sent from Kristik to delete it or edit its text. It works in any chat, and a change made without signal lands when signal comes back. A message you sent from the network's own app can't be changed from Kristik.

See who is typing

A chat says who is typing, on the networks that report it, and tells them when you are.

Group chats between Kristik members

New message → New group, then type the usernames of the people to add. A group is end-to-end encrypted, and even its name is kept off Kristik's servers: each phone names it from its members. Anyone in a group can add people and leave; whoever made it can also remove people. A group never rings.

Message Kristik support

Settings → Message Kristik support opens a thread with the team, who read it and answer. Unlike your chats, it isn't end-to-end encrypted, and the screen says so before you write. It is deleted with your account.

Clearer before and after

• Before you connect a network for the first time, the app says how much history it brings, and that nothing earlier can be fetched later.
• The recovery key screen says nobody at Kristik has a copy, and what losing it costs.
• A chat's details say what its network doesn't carry, such as edits or reactions.
• Settings' device list says when it couldn't load, rather than claiming you have no devices.
• Text spacing is the same on every screen, and a few small buttons are easier to press.

Sending one has been failing with "Not sent". The part of the server that talks to WhatsApp was passing your phone an answer it couldn't read, so the upload never started. This one is fixed on the server: you get it whether or not you update.

When one doesn't send on WhatsApp, Kristik now writes which step failed to the error log on your phone: reading the file, reaching WhatsApp's media servers, or the upload. Only the step is written, never the file, its name or what's in it.

Messages from your contacts now appear in your WhatsApp chats, next to your own. The server was turning every one of them away; the ones that waited on your phone came in once it was fixed.

The code is typed into WhatsApp on the same phone, and iOS used to pause Kristik while you did, so WhatsApp always answered "Couldn't link device". Kristik now keeps running for the half a minute a link takes.

Link WhatsApp with a code

Linking WhatsApp by typing a code into WhatsApp now works; before, only scanning the QR code did. If WhatsApp refuses, Kristik now says why, for example a number without its country code, instead of a general error.

WhatsApp through the relay, as it worked before

WhatsApp through Kristik's relay now carries what the old connection did, while Kristik's servers don't read your messages: your phone decrypts them.

• History: your 50 most recent chats from about the last three months, up to 200 messages each, with their original times.
• Names: contact names from WhatsApp, and sender names in groups. They are kept only on your phone.
• Groups, both ways.
• Photos, videos, voice messages and files, both ways, fetched straight from WhatsApp. A voice message you record goes to WhatsApp as an audio file.
• Replies, reactions, edits, deletions and read receipts.
• Android notifications name the sender. A locked iPhone still shows "New WhatsApp message".

The relay still sees your WhatsApp number and who writes to whom and when, and WhatsApp sends it group names and people's WhatsApp names as it passes them on; it keeps none of them. The first message to someone new is not yet protected from Kristik.

Where: Accounts → WhatsApp → Connect, then link from WhatsApp → Settings → Linked devices.

WhatsApp messages reach Kristik reliably

After linking, the relay could go quiet and stop receiving messages while still looking connected. It now keeps its connection to WhatsApp healthy and reconnects on its own when that connection stalls, and it answers everything WhatsApp sends it the way WhatsApp's own apps do.

Where: have someone message you on WhatsApp: it appears in your inbox under their number.

Messages WhatsApp couldn't deliver are fetched again

Sometimes WhatsApp tells a newly linked device that a message exists without being able to deliver it. Kristik now asks your own WhatsApp on your phone to send it again, as WhatsApp's own apps do, so it isn't lost.

Start a WhatsApp chat with a phone number

You can now write to someone on WhatsApp first, not only reply. Type their number with its country code in New message, then choose WhatsApp: message a phone number.

Where: the pencil button → type a number such as +370 612 34567 → WhatsApp: message ….

WhatsApp through the relay still carries one-to-one text only: history, contact names, groups and media are being built next, and arrive in a later update that asks you to link WhatsApp once more.

iPhone and Android 1.0, build 15 · server updated the same day

If you use WhatsApp in Kristik, link it again. WhatsApp has moved to a new connection, and the old one has been signed out. Your old WhatsApp chats are no longer in Kristik, but they are all still in WhatsApp on your phone. Update the app first, then open Accounts → WhatsApp → Connect.

WhatsApp moves to Kristik's relay

WhatsApp in Kristik now runs through the relay: your phone links itself to WhatsApp and keeps the keys that open your messages, and Kristik's servers carry them encrypted without those keys. Kristik's servers don't read your WhatsApp messages. They still see your WhatsApp number, who writes to whom, when, and how large each message is. One exception: the first message you send to someone you have never messaged on WhatsApp is not yet protected from Kristik. Whether the relay's connection key alone could ever be used to read a message hasn't been settled yet, so Kristik doesn't claim it can't.

For now the relay carries one-to-one text only. Until each part is rebuilt:

• group chats don't appear;
• photos, videos, voice notes and files show as a line such as "Photo — open WhatsApp to see it";
• no earlier history comes in: chats start from new messages;
• contacts show as phone numbers, not names;
• on a locked iPhone a notification says "New WhatsApp message", and the text appears when you open Kristik. Android shows the sender, and the text too if you turned that on.

Where: Accounts → WhatsApp → Connect, then on your phone WhatsApp → Settings → Linked devices → Link a device → Link with phone number instead, and type the code Kristik shows. It appears in WhatsApp as Kristik relay. You can remove any old Kristik entry from that list.

Messages that couldn't be decrypted are asked for again

A message sent in the first moments after linking could arrive in a form this phone couldn't open. Kristik now asks the sender's WhatsApp to send it again, as WhatsApp's own apps do, so it comes through.

The keyboard no longer covers what you type

On iPhone, the phone-number field, the network sign-in forms and a few other screens now move above the keyboard, so you can always see what you're typing.

You may notice

• Chats paused for a few minutes during the server update while the bridges restarted.
• The WhatsApp page shows "WhatsApp moved to a new connection" until you link it again.

You don't need to relink any network or enter your recovery key again. Don't delete the app to reinstall it: that erases what it keeps on your phone.

An experimental WhatsApp relay

You can now link a second, experimental Kristik device to your WhatsApp, called the relay. It is a first step towards Kristik's servers carrying WhatsApp messages without being able to read them: the relay's server keeps only encrypted copies, and your phone decrypts them. Your usual WhatsApp connection keeps running beside it, so nothing you rely on changes, and that connection can still read your messages. The relay screen shows how many messages arrived both ways, so we can see what the relay misses. It also holds your WhatsApp number and a connection key, and sees who wrote to whom and when. A first message you send through it to someone new is not yet protected from Kristik. Linking it is your choice, and unlinking signs it out of WhatsApp and deletes what it holds.

Where: Accounts → WhatsApp → Experimental relay. On this phone, WhatsApp → Settings → Linked devices → Link a device → Link with phone number instead, then type the code Kristik shows. It appears in WhatsApp as Kristik relay.

Clearer descriptions when you connect a network

Each network's page now explains, in plain words, how Kristik links to it, what that network can read, and what can go wrong, for example that WhatsApp can unlink Kristik or that Meta may challenge a new sign-in. Its History line now says exactly what your first link brings in: for WhatsApp, your 50 most recent conversations from about the last three months, with up to 200 messages each; for Telegram, up to 50 chats with people first; for Signal, every conversation if you accept the transfer. That first import is all the history Kristik gets, and only linking again brings more.

You don't need to relink any network or enter your recovery key again. Don't delete the app to reinstall it: that erases what it keeps on your phone.

Lock Kristik with Face ID, fingerprint or passcode

Kristik puts every network in one inbox, so one unlocked phone opens all of them. The app can now ask for your phone's own Face ID, fingerprint or passcode when you come back to it, after a delay you choose. It is off until you turn it on, and Kristik keeps no passcode of its own. Hiding Kristik in the app switcher and in screenshots is now a setting too, on by default.

Where: Settings → Privacy → Require Face ID, fingerprint or passcode, then Ask again after. Leave the app for longer than that and come back: you see Kristik is locked.

Messages that may not be from who they say are marked

In a chat between two Kristik people, a message that arrived without encryption now shows Not encrypted, and one sent from a device its sender never approved shows Can't confirm sender. Older messages restored from your key backup are not marked.

Where: any chat with another Kristik person. Ordinary messages show no mark.

A warning if your recovery key was replaced on another device

If someone resets your account's encryption from another device, for example with a stolen password, your phone now tells you, and the warning stays at the top of the inbox until this phone has the new key. If it was you, enter the new key it showed you. If it wasn't, someone else may have your password: write to hello@kristik.online to secure your account.

Linking a network warns that the account can be banned

The notice before you sign in to a network now also says that networks can restrict or ban an account they detect using a client like this one, and that Kristik cannot prevent that.

Where: Accounts → add a network, before its sign-in.

Android 13 and later ask before sending notifications

On Android 13 and later, notifications were being registered and then silently dropped. The app now asks for permission first; if you say no, it doesn't register at all.

Where: the system prompt when you turn notifications on.

• The snowfall on the inbox is gone.
• Kristik's operator dashboard now opens only on a computer holding a Kristik certificate, as a second lock besides the password.
• Behind the scenes: a new server component is in place for future features, and unused code was removed. Nothing you use changes.

You may notice

• Chats paused for a few minutes around 07:22 UTC while the server restarted. Messages sent then were delivered afterwards.
• On Android, screenshots of Kristik now come out blank. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy.
